I would ask around find people who go there ask about their experience. Drop in to talk, you can ask about their license and kinda scope the place out. If you can see them working on costumers look and see if their wearing gloves, how often do they wash their hands? do they run their hands through their hair or touch anything else that is germy with their gloves on? do they change gloves after every coustumer? Are their tools sterilized after EVERY costumer? While talking do they encourage costumers to call about any concerns they might have after they get home? Theres a millon other things related to sanitaion, but those are the main ones I’d look for.

As a personal preference, I like to go to a shop that only does piercings. I like this shop because they specialize in piercings. I wouldn’t ask my manicurist to perform root canal, and I feel similarly about tattoo artists performing piercings(though I have many friends who have done so and had wonderful results, its a personal preference). I’ve had some pretty personal piercings done, and never wanted to risk it with someone who may have only done that type of piercing a few times.
In general, when you arrive at the shop, it should feel sterile, similar to a doctors office. Feel free to ask questions about how they sterilize their equipment, how they perform their services, what their policies are, etc.
