What Is The Best Way To Remove A Tattoo If You Want To Cover It Up?

3 Comments 24 January 2010

I have a tattoo that I would like to cover, but it is dark so I need to probably get it lightened a bit first. Has anyone here gotten one partially removed and got a new one? I am worried about scarring and I had laser in 2005 and it left a little scar. Has there been much improvement in laser since then?

Hi there. In 2007 I also needed a tattoo removed on the back of my neck. I looked into laser treatments, but since the ink was black they said that it would only be lightened and not go away completely.
I decided to have the tattoo excised (cut out) instead. Obviously, this was an extreme case and I wouldn’t recommend anyone get their tattoos cut out of their skin. The back of my neck looks like a jigsaw puzzle and will never be scar-free even though my incisions healed up nicely. I did have to have one star removed by laser.
I took a lot of time to make my decision and talked extensively with the surgeons’ office who performed the procedure. I have absolutely no scarring and very little ink where I had them laser (even though it hurt like hell), but it was only probably only a .5″x.5″ star.
Sorry I don’t have much more information, except for my own experience.
    Good luck doll.
