A&D or Tattoo Goo for the first 3 to 4 days, then switch to an unscented lotion for the next week to 2 weeks. Once the tattoo is healed, coco-butter (Palmers is the best) a couple of times a day is never a bad idea, and of course sunscreen when your tattoo will be in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.

DO NOT USE preparation H like nuttygirl recommended. Some tattoo artists do recommend it, one did to my sister, and it messed her tat all up. It caused it to dry to fast and she got scabs and lost color…..had to get it retouched.
I always likes tattoo goo for the first week or two (mine seem to take a little longer then some ppl to heal.) But some ppl react bad to the stuff, my sister can’t use it, as she breaks out, and has always done well w/ A&D.

Hi, as the proud owner of 9 beautiful tattoo’; I would suggest you use Bepanthan … It is soothing and healing… Available from chemists and supermarkets.. Usually in Baby section…. I am also a Registered Nurse so I do have a “little” bit knowledge.. Good luck and keep your artwork moist, even after the initial dryness (scab) has disappeared, and please dont pick at it.. you will take the colour out with the top of the scab…and after all that effort of having someone create a piece of Art; DONT PICK !! Seriously; Bepanthan heals as well as showing the colours and fine lines beautifully…It is also great for dry lips, sunburn and breastfeeding nipples (sorry but I am only fully informing) Good luck!! u know what my tattooist always recommended to me? preparation ‘H’. lol! works a treat tho, cos its anti inflammitary and soothing. i’m not quite sure what it is you have but i would say anything thats quite a thick lotion to keep the scab soft x
edit: laura, i have used it on 3 tats and never had a problem. maybe your sister was unfortunate, used a bad artist or didn’t look after her tat properly

Tattoo Goo works good for me. I also use Savlon Antiseptic Cream by Johnson & Johnson for new tattoos, Its cheap and does wonders for tattoos that are healing.

i would think tattoo goo first to heal t then the lotion to moistuize it nothing else other than what the shop gave u. keep it clean with something like ivory bar of soap and put tattoo goo on after u shower.

I have had many friends that have gotten tattoos. They have all tried different things. The best thing we all came to a conclusion and decided was best after a new tattoo is called “bag balm”. It can be bought any drug store. It seems to have something in it for moisture, as well as something for healing. It seems to prevent peeling. Hope this helps all you tattooers out there. Good luck and happy tattooing.
