I was planning on getting a tattoo in about two weeks. I wanted to know what are some of the best things to do to prepare for a tattoo? Like certain soaps and lotions?

just treat it like a normal day.
make sure you eat and have adequate fluids, so you dont pass out.
wear clothing that fits loosely, and/or comfortably around the area you are having tattooed.
RELAX!
after the tattoo use something like tattoo goo or another ointment… (not neosporin or anything petroleum based) for the next 3 days to a week… depending on healing rate…
then switch to a lotion…
i use lubriderm… with the pink lid…, but i have heard that the original aveeno works well also.
hope it help a little
i have a few tattoos.. its like a normal day really. you need to buy unscented antibacterial soap, A&D ointment and maybe some plastic wrap to wrap it when you wear clothes, depending where you get it. clothes can pull ink out of them. also, maybe a get it the day before you off like 2 days or something, it can be painful for a few day… just depending where you get it.
eat well and drink lots of water.
Aside from the sanitation concern, i would seriously consider the size and complexity of the artwork. If it is your first time, i would suggest having a couple drinks before your session; trust me, it won’t kill you.
Cheers!
See your therapist and determine why you want to permanently place what you deem “cool” today on your body. Would you permanently attach your current shoes to your feet? How about any jewelry you wear? Do you honestly think your tastes will never change? Think a zillion times before doing this. It’s a trend now made more popular by ditzy teen celebrities and so many people have followed like sheep that NOT having a tattoo is more rare. Why do people think tats are so cool? To me they show someone’s lack of forsight and juvenility.

I have been in love with my oldest tats for 12 years now, honestly most people don’t pick what they think is “cool” now, but something that will be classic to them. It’s not a body, it’s a canvas, you need to stop judging people and let mistakes and happiness take their course.
To the original question, if it’s your first time ever you may want to take a friend to chat with you/entertain you, as long as it doesn’t distract you too much that you wiggle around. Just prepair to be as still as possible, and remember to breathe soothing deep breaths.
