Im a 19 yr old guy that is looking to get a tattoo. nothing popular, and i want it to be something that is meaningful. Something that causes thought, even deep thought. Im pretty picky when it comes to stuff like this and am going to get the tattoo on the inside of my right bicep. Right now i am leaning towards something composed of just one word, or a small phrase. Any ideas?

A tattoo should be something that is meaningful to you. Different symbols can mean different things to different people.
Think of things you like. This could be something that means a lot to you, or even simply something that you enjoy doing.
What can you find that represents one or more of those things?
If you DO decide on words, song lyrics are a favorite of mine. You could find a short lyric from your favorite song, or maybe a line from your favorite book. Maybe you can even find a quote that really means a lot to you.

I’ve always believed that it should be personally meaningful. Something that not only will make others think, but has a strong emotional connection to you. For example, I have an intricate design on my lower back with the word ‘one’ embedded, for my mother who died when I was young.
I’m also thinking of getting the word ‘imagine’ (as in the John Lennon song) somewhere, possibly shoulder blade, as it’s a word that has always inspired me to be a better person, and stick up for what I believe in.
Obviously these are just my personal choices, but they are examples of simple words that have a lot of meaning to me, which is definitely the best way to go. If it’s gonna be on you forever, it has to something on which your feelings will never change.
Well, you’re on the right track. You know what you don’t want… that’s a good start. You have narrowed it down to one word or a small phrase. I’m going to go with the word Believe. Thought provoking with many connotations, and as you grow and evolve as a person the meaning of the word “believe” can also grow and evolve with you.

My story…
I have always loved the sea and sailing and my style is based on the classy west coast navy style… SO I found the anchor and compass listed on the site and found their true meanings from back in the day of exploration sailors. They both are symbols of home and safety… therefore I knew they would be good for me cause I want to travel the world.
It worked out for me and when my friends see the newest tattoo they say “it’s so you” because I found what was good for me. Good luck on the search for the tattoo that screams you.

I love how people ask strangers to suggest ‘meaningful’ tattoos for them. IMO, if you can’t come up with something ‘meaningful’ on your own, you should wait until you can.

I think you need to think hard about it, its a hard decision and you may regret it later i recently got a tattoo across my ribs saying ‘minnas dem’ which means remember them, it represents everyone in my life that are alive and dead and is very meaningful to me. Perhaps think for abit longer if you havent already decided?
