Question About Hiding A Tongue Piercing?

6 Comments 14 February 2010

So I’m getting my tongue pierced sometime next week. I start school in a month or so actually the first day of school is my 18th birthday (I know it sucks) I know it will heal by then, but is there a way I can hide my tongue piercing? And also what are the chances of it getting infected? It’s not like I care, because i’m getting it pierced anyways, I was just wondering! thanks!

You can’t 100% hide any piercing above the neck. You can wear a retainer to make it more discreet, but only after it has fully healed which takes roughly 14 days (they don’t fully heal in 3-4 days as a previous person mentioned. They’re still very swollen at that point). The only thing is don’t buy an acrylic or plastic retainer. They are made from a porous material that can harbor germs and bacteria. I actually had one that I accidentally bit in half which cut the inside of my tongue. That really sucked. Oh, and there is a very slim risk of infection with a tongue piercing.
I would recommend something like this:http://www.bodyartforms.com/productdetai…
The only other thing I can tell you is to not get a piercing that is obviously prohibited by your school. It’s such a waste. Tongue piercings, especially when they’re less than a year old, close up very, very quickly. Within hours in some instances. If you went to school and a teacher or school administrator noticed even your retainer and made you take it out, the hole could be closed up by the time you get home.
And I promise, as someone who had a tongue piercing, there is no bigger waste in the world than the money you spend and the epic amount of pain you go through with this particular piercing when you have to take it out less than a year of getting it done.

It will be a lot less noticeable if you put clear or flesh colored acrylic balls on it. It will also help you keep from chipping your teeth, because that happens sometimes with metal balls!
A friend of mine had hers done for over a year before her parents noticed it, because she talked without opening her mouth really wide and she had clear acrylic balls on both sides.

tongue piercings are really tricky.. don’t be in a rush to get it if you have concerns. infections are a huge problem with them.. and you really should care.. not just get it done to get it done.
to hide it.. i guess just talk with your mouth closed. why do you need to hide it?

The chances of an infection are slim, just keep things out your mouth that shouldn’t be in it lol, but seriously. And it completly heals in 3-4 days. Theres flat tongue rings and clear ones… pink too, if you want in to blend in with your tongue :)

Well you can’t really hide it.. It’s the first thing people are going to see when you talk. you can ask for clear ones to put in but other than that nothing.
