With my cartilage it NEVER healed. I ended up getting this really nasty bump and the back of the hoop I was wearing got stuck in it. I still have scars from it. Just because I had a bad experience doesn’t mean you will though.
Before you talk to your Mom try looking up information about the piercings. That way you can give her an educated approach to why it’s okay for you to have the piercings. Let her know that you understand the risks and know how to properly care for them.
I would NOT get them done ANYWHERE that uses guns for piercing. Remember that cheaper isn’t always better.
I have (had) many many piercings.
and Hey!… I’m a student nurse and i’m really into any kind of body mod. Dont’ assume we are all party poopers =P

There is not threat whatsoever about getting your second hole done.
Ask her if she would rather you get your lip pierced or a cartilage, and remind her that cartilage piercings and that extreme.
Get them done at a proper piercing place, and DONT get them pierced by gun as the gun is not steralised, get them done by needle.
There are no downsides to any of them.
Want more info on the two of them?
This is a good site, go through the list of ear piercings for more info :]http://www.bodyjewelleryshop.com/body_pi…
    Good Luck :]

    ok…
you will want to go to a pro
    why?
they use hollow needles which cuts out a tiny piece of cartilage instead of a blunt needle which just forces cartilage OVER!! and causes it to HURT VERY BADLY!
so.. hollow needle. There isnt much of a threat, but it will be sore for a few days, so you cant sleep on the side you get pierced. Generally the left side is pierced, ( some ppl say the right side is the ‘gay’ side)
and your mom? just tell her its a piercing. If you dont like it you can always take it out and no harm done. :)

Ok, well firstly, no there are no threats in getting your second hole- IF you clean it properly. It’s just the SAME as getting your first hole pierced. Clean it properly and regularily (twice a day) and it should be FINE.
-You can convince your mum by taking her to a pro piercing studio to ask the piercer questions. He’ll be able to tell your mum everything about the piercing and she’ll soon see it’s not dangerous. She’ll also be reassured by the cleanliness of the studio and by the professionalism of the people who work there. You can and should also research cartilage piercings so you can show your mother all the things you have learned. Research healing times and proper cleaning and then tell your mother that you are aware of how to care for your piercing and will take FULL responsibility for it.
-Get BOTH done in a PROFESSIONAL PIERCING STUDIO. It may seem cheaper and easier to go to a mall store such as claires but it can be dangerous. NEVER pierce cartilage with a gun, as it shatters the cartilage, and makes healing prolonged. It’s also a lot more painful. The gun cannot be sterilised as it is not able to be autoclaved, so infection can be passed on. Also, the gun forces dull jewerlly into the ear and so causes trauma to the ear. In short its dangerous. Pros use a sterile hollow needle, and this is alot better.
    - Again, as i said earlier the lobe is pretty straight forward, the cartilage does hurt a bit more than the lobe, its also quite a pain to heal, and they are prone to getting keloids and nasty bumps, this can be treated using emu oil though. You should clean both piercings with sea salt water twice a day. You could also buy saline solution or H20cean- these can be bought at a piercing shop and are specially designed for piercing aftercare. Also, for your first jewerlly you should pick stainless steel or titanium jewerlly- not gold as this is not good for fresh wounds despite popular belief. Oh, and go for posts to start off with, as rings bend the hole and allow crusty lymph to be dragged into the fresh piercing.
    - There arnt really any downsides to the second hole, as its pretty standard, they heal relatively quickly without any problems. Although there are downsides to the cartilage in that hair often gets tangled up in it, and as i mentioned earlier, the piercing heals slowly and is prone to bumps…its a good piercing to have though. I’ve found that a 1.2mm piece of jewerlly is great for cartilage piercings, but a standard sized earring seems to irrate it.
Hope that helped and good luck!
