3 Comments 22 February 2010

ok so i got my nose pierced a few days ago, and i posted this question awhile ago. the skin around my piercing is red and swollen, and it feels like underneath the skin has hardened up. i don’t know what to do? i did my research before but i had no idea it would swell up like this. it’s not full of puss or anything, it’s just swollen and i think the infection is getting worse. can someone please help me?

Considering it’s only a couple days old it’s probably not infected.
It’s just healing, your body is taking time to decide what it’s supposed to do with a foreign object just chilling in your nose.
Swelling is normal, redness is normal. It probably feels “hard” because it’s swollen.
If it was infected, puss would be coming out.
Btw, your probably going to see some liquids soon but it doesn’t mean it’s infected. It it’s white/clear/light yellow, that’s good.
But if it’s smelly, green, dark yellow: Infected
I suggest sea salt soaks, regardless of it being sore anyways that’s what you should be cleaning it with to prevent infection, but it’ll also make your nose feel a little better.
    Also, NO NEOSPORIN! EVER!
It even says right on the bottle, not for puncture wounds. Piercings, are puncture wounds. It’ll just clog your piercing up and do nothing good for it.

Natural, if it’s your first then it should be swollen. your skin is not used to the fact of a needle going into the nose. No puss means no infection. If puss does form though then there is an infection but i believe it’s just naturally swollen.
