Hey everyone,
I got my navel pierced 1 week ago. It has been a little sore and red lately which I know is normal. Well, friday I noticed that the top ball of the ring was kinda sinking into my skin! I know pretty wierd! I got scared and went to my piercer. She said it was ok, not infected or anything like that. She was like “If you see it sinking in more, come back and ill put a hoop on.” Of course I dont want a hoop or even bother the healing process…I have been putting a small bandaid on the top of the ball of the ring where it was sinking in so it wont sink anymore. The bandaid is on my skin, not covering the ball.I just put the bandaid under the ball to cover my skin. I have done that for the past 2 days and its looking good. My question is, is that okay? When I take it off to clean the piercing, it is pretty crusty and the bandaid has some discharge on it. I just dont want my ring to sink, that looks gross! Is the bandaid okay?

I got my navel pierced a few weeks ago during the Memorial Day weekend. After about a week, the top ball of my ring began to sink into my skin to the point that I was seeing it less and less each day. I went right back to my piercer who changed the ball to a much larger one (the original one was quite small). My suggestion to you is to first, stop using the band-aid. Your piercing, like any wound, needs air. A band-aid prohibits the wound from getting the air it needs to help it heal. Second, I would go to a different piercing place and have them change the ring or give you a bigger top ball. Make sure that your jewelry is surgical steel and not the cheap $10 crap a lot of people purchase. Furthermore, make sure you wash your piercing at least twice a day with Dial Complete (it’s a foam soap) and use a sea salt solution or spray. This will help clear up the infection you have. Mine got infected too when I was experiencing the same problem. But, definitely, get to a different piercer or even demand the person who pierced you to do something.
i cant believe you care more for the band aid than your own skin!!!go to a licenced dermatologist to check your skin condition.she knows better than your ‘im not so sure….if licenced
piercer’….dont let the days pass or it might be too late before you know it.
well I’m not forsure if the band-aid thing is okay. I’ve wanted to get my navel pierced as well but my mom, who is a nurse, said that it wouldn’t be a good idea for me because we live in IL and I wouldn’t always be able to wear shirts that wouldn’t cover my bellybutton. So I think its better not to cover it, but thats just based off of info that my mom told me. I would suggust going back to the place you got it done and ask them again because you don’t want it to get infected. its probably that the skin is just healing, like your ears would if you got them pierced again. good luck!
Idk the same thing is happening to me know and I called the piercer and he said its normal as long as it don’t go more than half in and it does look gross! I hope it works for you! I hope that he can change mine if needed cuz I don’t wanna take it out…
Ok so I went back and it turns out I needed a longer bar so he took a tonge bar that was bent and so much better BTW
