Lip Piercing Question Swelling On Inside?

6 Comments 22 January 2010

Heya, just wanting to ask a question i got my lip pierced at a jewllers about a month ago and therefore had a lip stud put in with no problems whatsoever, however 2 weeks later i got a ring put to replace. SO far its been ok, with the exception of a large amount of swelling on the inside.
I know what an infection is, and the signs itchyness/pain/puss aren’t there at all.
Just wondering what the best course of action to take is, thanks :]

Mine was like that for about 2 months…it just takes a while for the swelling to go down. I wouldn’t worry unless you start to notice signs of infection. :)

DOn’t poke at it from the inside with your tongue. The ring has a chance of getting embedded in your lip, and that is no fun, especially since it is swolen on the inside. Maybe put some ice on it, and don’t eat anything spicy for a while. Good luck!

could be just a reaction from changing the jewelry. Try just rinsing your mouth with salt water for awhile until it goes away. Like after you eat/smoke/whatever….. I have piercings too and that’s all I do when they seem to start getting infected or sore or red or anything like that.

You did change it to early.
Use antibacterial soap directly on the oustide and run the ring in and out of your lip. Rinse the same way with warm water. Place a SMALL amt of neosporin on the ring 2 or 3 times total during the infection, but, do try to wash it 2 times a day.

    do not use neosporin!

do not use neaosporin. It does not heal puncture wounds, and that’s what a piercing is. And I have the same problem. I got mine done saturday, and it was fine till sunday, that’s when the swelling started. I have swelling on the inside. But I don’t have any signs of infection besides it wakes me up in the middle of the night hurting, and my lip is swelled. I don’t know if that’s normal?
