4 Comments 01 February 2010

Lip piercing help! PLEASE?
i had my lip pierced about 2 weeks ago and it was fine until a few days ago, around the piercing there was some dry skin and now it’s turned into just redness which is slightly protruding when i smile. is this part of the healing process or is this the first signs of a keloid?
what can i do about it to make it go away?

You probably just pressed on it while you were sleeping or something. Sometimes it will glow red when it is slightly irritated. It is definitely NOT keloid, because its too early to diagnose that.
Also, your ring might be a little on the tight end and if thats the case, loosen it up a bit. I say just be extra careful for another week, and if the redness doesn’t disappear, see a doctor. Worst case scenario is a mild infection, but thats only if you haven’t been taking care of it. And by posting this, I’m assuming you’ve done well to look after it. Don’t trip.

It’s perfectly normal. The dried white stuff means it’s healing and the redness means there is a slight infection. I got mine in October and it took way longer than 4-6 weeks to heal. It get’s infected easily. I washed with antibacterial soap for the outside and used H2Ocean spray for the inside. Hope this helps.

it should be fine, mine did that too. If you think its infected clean it and then put Polysporin around the hole.
