Industrial Piercing Question? Gauges And Healing Time?

5 Comments 30 January 2010

I have had my industrial for about five months, i heard they take a year to fully heal and that’s when you should change them; is that true? Mine is a 16 gauge and i want it to be a 14 gauge, how painful would it be to gauge it a size up and can i do it now?

    wow, those are bad answers.
healing time is most definitely up to a year.
    16 to 14 isn’t going down.
keeping jewelry in has nothing to do with the piercing tightening other than the fact that changing jewelry often helps to keep it a little more stretched.
cartilage is so fussy. i definitely recommend letting it heal before you mess with it. changing before it’s healed should be done by your piercer (that’s the part they always leave out on these sites)
cartilage doesn’t stretch well. going to 14 won’t be a prob, usually, but you don’t want to stretch cartilage too much.
be patient. let it heal. then you can do whatever you want to it.

No. Healing time for an industrial is about 6-8 weeks total. Then it would be okay to stretch it. If you have no tenderness, no redness, and no real “feeling”, meaning no abnormal feeling compared to your other ear, then you should be fine. It depends on the person as to how much it hurts. Seeing as that part of your ear is cartilage it will hurt some no matter what sort of pain tolerance you have. If you have a high tolerance, shouldn’t be too horrible. If it’s low, it’ll probably hurt quite a bit to be honest.
    Remember:
Gauge = the size of the hole.
Stretch = Actually doing the act…. not gauging, stretching.
Be safe & good luck! :)

you can change them way before a year, but dont keep the jewelry out for too long before its fully healed or it will tighten up, and close,.and yes it will hurt to stretch any type of cartilage piercing.. hurts more then even getting the piercing.. its a continuous pain for a couple days, like an itchy burning feeling..i have 22 piercings, so ive got lots of experience with this.. lol

i got mine done a month ago and i waited 3 weeks before i changed mine and the gauge for my industrial is a 14 gauge about gauging your it shouldn’t hurt since your gauging it down but you should ask your piercer

I had my idustrial done about 2 1/2 monthes ago and after i got out the shower my bar fell out accidently and i figured id try to gauge it to 14g. It went right it with no pain at all. So try it right the shower when its softer and can easily slip in.
