so i think next week im thinking about an industrial piercing.
does it hurt like a lot of people say it does? (while the piercer is piercing it through your 2 cartilages)
and i heard that in one of them the cartilage makes a “crack” noise? (is that true?)
how much is the range of this?
and the care instuctions?
thank yoou.

I got mine done about a month ago, and it did hurt more than other piercings. Basically how he did it, was he pierced the front hole first (the one that is closer to your face) and put in the barbell. That was what hurt the most as the cartilage is thicker there (He was putting enough pressure to make his hand shake putting the needle through, it was intense for a couple seconds but worth it!). The second hole was really nothing, and he put the barbell through that hole and it was done. It did bleed a little, but I would say it was my best piercing experience thus far. I did not hear any crack or crunching, but everyone is different.
It cost me about $80. The care is just like any other piercing. Keep your hair away from it, try not to sleep on it for the first while (it will hurt), clean it once a day with soap (I use regular bar soap, unscented), try to do at least 2 sea salt soaks per day. The more soaks you do, the better as it helps oxygen get to the piercing so it can heal. You may get a bump near the hole, it’s called hypertrophic scarring and it is very common with cartilage piercings (I got it on my helix, and also have it on one hole of my industrial). It will go away in time.
Hope this helps you out! I was really nervous about getting it done, but just remember to breathe while its happening and it’s over before you know it!
You need to have a piercer evaluate your anatomy, because not ears are well formed to wear a the typical industrial placement.
For aftercare, view the industry standard for piercing care guidelines from the Association of Professional Piercers:

If the piercer is swift and skillful, it shouldn’t hurt too much. But cartilage piercings can sting–and this is two of them, one right after the next.
This is part of what The Piercing Bible–The Definitive Guide to Safe Body Piercing says about industrial piercings:
“Many people are not good candidates; they simply lack sufficient tissue where the piercings should be placed. You must have the ideal anatomy so the piercings can be angled without distorting or causing stress on the tissue. Alternatively, your piercer must have the proper equipment and know-how to custom-bend your barbell. Attempting to cheat tissue into the piercing is common but injurious. Along with the grief of troubled healing, an ear cartilage piercing that is under constant pressure will feel downright agonizing.
It is normal for any piercing to swell during initial healing. Even minor inflammation in one or both wounds, however, can be disastrous for an industrial because the piercings are connected. Excess scar tissue formation, migration, and rejection are common in poorly placed industrials.”
“does it hurt like a lot of people say it does?” all i can say is no pain! no gain!
The cost of a body piercing varies depending on the location of the body being pierced, the type of piercing and the individual piercer. Typical costs:
• A body piercing typically costs $20 to $55 for earlobes, ear cartilage or cheek.
• A body piecing typically costs $30 to $65 for the eyebrow, nose, navel or nipple.
• A body piercing typically costs $40 to $85 or more for a Medusa (a piercing above the lip), the tongue web or the surface of the body, such as at the nape of the neck.
• Body piercings are considered cosmetic and are not covered by medical insurance. However, treatment for complications from a piercing, such as infection, would usually be covered.
This is my Daily Care Routine
•
Do not touch your piercing unless you are cleaning it. Unwashed hands carry bacteria and your piercing is a point where these bacteria can penetrate below your skin and cause an infection.
•
While healing, at least for the first 2 – 3 weeks, your piercing will need to be cleaned once daily – while showering is ideal. You will need to use an antibacterial soap.
Wash your hands with antibacterial soap.
Wet the piercing with plain water.
Put a few drops of antibacterial soap on the piercing and work them into a lather with a cotton bud.
Try to loosen any crusted discharge and float it off the jewelry and your skin with the cotton bud.
Leave the antibacterial soap on the piercing for two minutes while rotating the jewelry back and forth, allowing the disinfectant to penetrate the piercing.
Rinse with water and air dry thoroughly
I got mine done two days ago. I am not sixteen, so my parents had to sign for it. (if you are underage, plan on bringing a parent, student ID, birth certificate and or passport, and your parent’s ID)
The people there were very nice. She took me back into the room, measured my ear, sterilized everything, and then did the first hole. That one didn’t hurt badly at all. Then she did the second one, which did hurt a lot (because all the blood has rushed to your ear).
Then, she put in the jewelry, and it was all good. It swelled up pretty bad, but that’s normal, and will go down with time.
Aftercare:
Make sure to keep it clean and DO NOT TOUCH. Soak it with a salt solution (distilled water and non-iodized salt preferably). Cold compresses can make it feel better.
Change your pillowcases every night for the first few weeks. Also, keep your hair off of it.
I really love mine, and the pain was totally worth it. It was the most painful I’ve had, but I have a pretty high pain tolerance. (When I got my belly button done, I didn’t even feel it).
If you are planning on getting one done, prices range anywhere from 30$ to 80$ depending on where you go. I highly recommend getting it done, it is only about five minutes of pain, and I think they are very nice-looking.
BUT: if you don’t have the time or patience to take care of a high-maintenance piercing, don’t, because this one takes a lot of work and it takes a really long time to heal.
Hope this helps :]
