How Much Would Getting This Tattoo Hurt?

12 Comments 27 January 2010

I’m planning on getting some writing across the bottom of my back and have never had a tattoo before. How bad is the pain because i’ve heard it’s worse on bony areas…
so for anyone whos had tattoos, particularly on thier lower back, how bad does it hurt and what does it feel like?

I have 11 tats and I can honestly say that the neck and lower back hurt the most. Yes, it hurts more on boney places and considering lower back tattoos go over your spine, it’s def. not a walk in the park. If it’s your first tattoo I’d consider getting it somewhere else where it’ll be a little less painful so you can get the experience of getting a tattoo and getting to see what it feels like for yourself. If you really have your heart set on this tat, I’d say go for it. Just be prepared since it is your first time. Just keep in mind how much your gonna enjoy it when it’s done and it’ll be worth the pain.

    good luck!

I have one on my lower back and the pain wasn’t too bad. It was definatly bearable. When they hit the bone it hurts a bit worse. During the tattoo it feels like what a bee sting would probably feel like. Then afterwards it feels like a sunburn.
I also have one on the top of my foot and that was very painful. You’ve heard right, areas with a lot of bone are the most painful.
    Good Luck.

i have a lower back tattoo and it was my first one so i didn’t know what to expect either. at first it felt like he was cutting me very slowly with a butter knife and i thought it hurt a lot but after just a couple mins my body quickly numbed up and it really wasn’t that bad. it just became an annoying feeling from the vibration of the gun and it was over before i knew it. just take someone along with you to talk to to help keep your mind off it.

Well I have 3 tattoos, one going across my lower back, one on my neck, and one on the side of my hip that goes down my thigh. And hands down, my lower back hurt the most! It was unbearable and I have a high pain tolerance. It fells like someone is scratching you with a needle, and it’s a very annoying pain!

sorry if i repeat anyone but i only read some of the first persons. i have a tramp stamp it was my first because its so easy to cover. i have an octapus. it was my least pain ful. i have my calf, my lower stomach, my ribs, behind my ears across the top of my back done and the top of my arm. the tramp stamp is the least painful by far and im a pansy. good luck

Are you talking about a tramp stamp? If so don’t do it, they are the most overdone of tattoos ever. They don’t hurt that bad but you will regret getting it. They are worse than the Grateful Dead Teddy Bears everyone used to get.

I got mine done around my calf…when he was on the shin (bone) it didn’t hurt at all. The back part is what hurt.
I would imagine where you want yours would probably hurt on the bone, since it goes across your spine.

GD bear is over rated…but the Asian Emblems are so over done it’s pathetic…that and the lame, Epic Rib Tat…gosh!
GD bear is cute, always will be. Some stupid Chinese logo like, ‘Courage’ is just silly and so done it’s well done.

it dont hurt that bad but yeah it does sting. it was my 2nd tat and it did hurt worse then my other one, only because the lower part of ur back is tender

  10. Natalie says:

feels like someone is scratching you with a pin, bottom of back isnt all that painful and generally quite quick x
