I am thinking about getting one on the back of my neck, I hear it hurts the least even though it’s close to bone. Is that true?
Anyways I just wanted to know how deep the tattoo needles are? I’ve never gotten one so I have no clue about anything. Is the needle thick and long? Or thin?

The needle only goes 1/16th of an inch into your skin. I am using “needle” as a general term, because there are clusters of needles, not just one. The needles are usually thicker and range from clusters of 5 to clusters of 12.
They are pretty thin, but they use different needles depending on what they are doing. It really doesnt hurt as much as some people say it does. It hurts the most at first, but in a couple of minutes your mind kind of begins to numb it out. I never had one on my neck, but when I got one that went around my biscep, it hurt pretty bad when they got to the soft skin on the inside of my biscep. On the back of your neck it shouldnt hurt too bad. I got one on my back, and it didnt hurt at all. But yeah, it really doesnt hurt that much. It feels like a moderately painful stinging sensation. It actually is more uncomfortable right after you get it, because it feels like a sunburn, but if you use the ointment they should give you it wont be that bad.
You should go to whatever shop you are thinking of getting your tattoo at and just tell them you are curious about what getting a tattoo is like. They might let you watch them tattoo someone else so you know what you are getting into. They can show you the needles and such…it’s actually all pretty cool.
depending on the tattoo, the artist will use a liner of 1-9 small needles, and a shader of 4-14 small needles. the needles only go in through the first layer of skin, approc 1/16 – 3/32 in. as for the pain, everyone is different
