1. Pain–I’d say it’s probably around a 7. It’s nothing too unbearable, and the piercing itself is quick. but sometimes maneuvering the jewelry in can be pretty uncomfortable, no matter how fast the piercer is.
2. Rejection–It’s kind of difficult, but try not to move and bend too much or rotate your hips (turn side to side). Hip piercings are infamous for rejection simply because the location they’re in is constantly in motion. It’s this same reason that they require constant care and upkeep. I’ll elaborate more in four on this….
3. Cleaning–Use H2Ocean (recommended. Can be found at almost any tattoo or piercing parlor) or a seasalt mix (non-iodized salt can be substituted) to clean it three times daily. I use Dial’s fragrance-free antibacterial soap twice a day (morning and night) on all of my piercings because it cleans great without irritating my skin. For sleeping (and during the day the first few days if you want) pick up hard eyepatch covers at your local drugstore and tape them over the piercing. It helps prevent you pulling or tearing them in your sleep and keeps rubbing fabric, like from your shirt, off of them.
4. Permanency– Yes, the can reject easily if you aren’t careful. It is a temporary piercing because they will never fully heal, due to the fact that your stomach is constantly twisting/bending/torquing. They do require regular upkeep and trips to the piercer to make sure they’re healing alright. Even after the basic healing period, regular check-ins are recommended.
5. Pain Prevention–Take some Tylenol or Ibuprofen 20 to 30 minutes beforehand. It curbs the pain. Otherwise, while you’re being pierced the piercer will have you take a breath in as he pierces, which helps.
6. Cost–I was considering getting them a while ago and didn’t, specifically because of the price. They were bid at $120 for me, and this was at a reputable piercing parlor I trusted. The price wasn’t worth the risk of rejection for me (and I’d been dead set on getting them, sucked), so I passed, but it’s up to you. You might find a place that would do them (meaning a pair) for around $100, but I wouldn’t expect much less than that.
Hope that helped, and feel free to shoot me an email if you have any other questions. Good luck
honestly when i got mine done a few days ago the first one killed. but the second one was alot better and less painful. but if you really want it done than the pain is worth it. at the place where i get my piercings all done above the waist is $25 and below the waist is $55. but luckly i know them pretty well and they gave me a deal to do both for $40 and then they did my friends hood for $35. when i got there i asked my piercer about maybe getting 4 dermal anchors instead and he told me that those reject too and if they get tugged the entire thing can come out b/c the anchor is pretty small still. and b/c the hips are a high movement area he told me that doing it w/ tygon would be best and when he was putting the tygon in the used a tool to turn up the ends that made it into the standard surface bar staple shape. ive been wearing alot of basketball shorts and when im around the house i wear a bikini top or just have my shirt pulled up so nothing touches the piercings. and when i go to bed after washing them i take a clean tissue and fold it and then tape it over the piercings so my sheets dont rub on them (i have extremely fuzzy blankets that always leave fuzzies everywhere). and when i am out i wear baggy shirts that done touch them too much. bending over will be uncomfortable for a bit, so just make sure to sit up straight or lean back on chairs.
since i only had mine done a few days ago i cant recommend too much about long time care besides just keeping it clean and not touching it. good luck w/ yours though!
ps. my bf loves it, its one of the most BA piercings you can get
Almost all surface piercings are temporary. I’ve never had my hips done but my sternum (cleavage as i was nicknamed for it later) was pierced back in January. My piercings was the most painful I’ve ever had, but I am a firm believer in the mental processes that cause pain and think that most of it was my nerves. Honestly, it all depends on your tolerance. I cleaned my piercing with warm salt water twice daily, and it never got infected, but the skin was so tight there that it did reject two months later and leave me a nice little scar. Over all I’d say it was worth it though, and that if you really want your hips to find a good piercer, psych yourself up and go for it, oh and wear lots of low rise jeans other wise the waist band is going to rub and push the bars around and make them reject faster.
One more side note, please use a proper surface bar or the clear plastic flexible bar.
I have had quite a few surface piercings, all of which rejected.
1)Pain is different for everyone. If anything the pain of it rejecting will hurt tons more than the pain of it getting pierced, and it will leave a bad scar.
2)In an area like where a hip piercing would be there’s really nothing you can do to prevent rejection. Yes, you could try different types of jewelry – some say surface barbells are the best, others say tygon is the best. My surface ones we’re done with surface barbells which rejected (sternum lasted 6 months, nape lasted 2 years) and I’m considering trying the nape again with tygon jewelry.
3) You clean them by doing two sea salt soaks a day
4)Yes, what surface piercings do best is reject. It’s only a temporary piercing and I really don’t see one there last long at all. They reject because of all the constant movement and trauma to that area. A piece of jewelry really has no chance of surviving there.
5)To make the pain less be sure to get a good nights sleep beforehand, and eat a good meal before getting pierced. After getting pierced, you can take ibuprophen if the pain is bad.
6)Cost is different from place to place. My nape was $100, sternum was $120 (I got gemmed disks instead of regular disks for the sternum). If I get my nape re-pierced at a different shop it’ll be $70.
I’d really advise against it unless you’d like a nice scar there. My nape didn’t scar too badly but my sternum left a really bad scar, if you’d like to email me I can show you pictures of how ugly a rejecting piercing looks, and what the scar looks like.
You could try microdermals instead, they have a smaller chance of rejection (although it can still happen). Microdermals/dermal anchors are basically single point piercings, although they are pretty expensive.
1. The pain for me was terrible. I went in thinking it wouldn’t hurt because I have my belly button pierced and that didn’t hurt me at all. but I agree with the first comment, it’s probably about a seven. The second one my piercer did hurt worse than the first, let’s just say I cried.
2. There’s nothing you can really do to for it not to reject. It depends on how your body heals the piercing and how well you take care of it.
3. Try not to allow your clothes to rub against your new piercing. The pperson that did mine told me to put sea salt in a cup with warm water, place it over my hip piercing, and let it soak for about three minutes. and when in the shower, wash normally but don’t get anything caught on it. Use a pump anti bacterial soap, like dial or something because bar soap is germ infested.
4. All surface piercings eventually reject :/
5. I honestly couldn’t tell you, just make sure you eat something before you get it done. Some people are at high risk of passing out or blood loss depending.
6. I don’t know what these other people are talking about but for both of mine, including the jewelry, it cost $70.
Hey
I got my hip done just on thursday,
It wasnt painfull just the jewerly was a little bit painfull because he couldnt get the last part in so he had to stick the needle back in lol… But in the end it really doesnt hurt that much, but if you really got your heart put on to having it done, do it, it makes you feel amazing about your body, just keep it really clean,
And only use salt water 2 to 3 times a week, or it’ll be hard to heal, salt water can really dry it out :]
Hiiiiiiii I got two surface hip piercings done 3 days ago & ones doing really well I think. The other one is bruised & I think it may be swollen. What can I do? Is this normal?
Also, the guy that pierced my hips used a longer version of an eyebrow ring in them, is this okay?
I really want my hips pierced, and my mom said yes.. but a lot of people are saying its a rejected piercing… cause its a surface piercing.. what else is considered being “surfaced” . and what is the worst part of getting them done ?
and is it true the less activity the better its going to heal?
1) I just got my hips done today..literally like 3 hours ago. The pain for the first one was maybe a 5. The second one was probably a 5.5 or 6. But neither one hurt nearly as bad as my vertical labret; that was like an easy 10.
2) My piercing guy told me that basically, as long as you properly care for it, it should last a while. He couldn’t give me a definite timeline, because there isn’t one since everyone’s body is different. I have a ton of skin on my stomach, so i would last longer than someone with a little skin on their stomach. Also, the less you move your hips (dancing, walking, standing/sitting, etc) the longer it’ll last. Also, make sure they use the barbell that looks like a staple. and make sure that ALL of that barbell is under your skin, because if it’s not it will reject faster.
3)I was given H2Ocean spray, and told to apply as needed (pretty much whenever the scabs get dry or the piercing itself feels dry or “stiff”.)
4) This piercing rejecting is inevitable. Because of the high-traffic area and the fact that it’s a surface piercing, it will eventually reject. But like i said earlier, the better care you take of it and if you have the “right conditions” (i.e; enough skin, low traffic, cleanliness, etc.) it can last longer.
5) I thought it hurt less than my vertical labret piercing. It was about a 5 overall…afterwards, it itched a little at first, and it stings. Make sure your barbells don’t start slipping out either, it also stings. And keep it covered overnight..I haven’t actually had this experience yet, but I was told that I should cover it while sleeping to prevent snagging on blankets, and unwanted pulling and agitation.
6) Today it cost me $107.something, and I gave a $13 tip ($120 total). But I will have to go back and get other barbells when the piercing settles a little more, so it will be another $50 I think. about $170-ish)
Hope I helped.
okay,
1]
The pain, is a pinch if youve ever had a piercing youd know the clamps or the preasure hurts the worst.
2] MAKE SURE YOU GET IT DONE CORRECTLY adn with the correct jewlery i have a want to say curved barbells. just make sure you take care of them. and after you get them weaar loose cllothes and your jeans low.
3]
saline solution works the best, you can make it yourself with sea salt and warm water. avoid dial and most anti – bacterial soaps they can dry it out.
4]
actually they do have a high rejection rate, but so do dermal hip piercings.
5]
try putting orajel or ice for 5 minutes. truth is if you want it that bad youll take the pain.
6]
they are prettty expensive, mine were 50$ only befcause it was a personal piercer [still done correctly] but usually 150 – 200.
thats for the hip surface piercing, the dermals would be a little bit more than that.
* heads up, the act of getting it pierced doesnt hurt nearly as much as the healing process. there a beautiful and uniuqe piercing as long as your readsdy for the responsibility then you should totally get them.
** if your going somewhere thats makes you bring the jewelery, try looking online which will be a couple bucks.
*** after wards try not to lay on them but if they do get majorly sore put some ice on them.
**** get them done professionaly, ive had a bad exspierence and it wasnt pretty
there awsome go ahead get them :]
hope i helped

1. To be perfectly honest with you, getting a surface hip piercing is nasty. The pain for me was just very painful. I got a snakebite and my bellybutton pierced, but the hip piercing is more painful than those three combined. And I agree with Davinaa, the healing proces is even more painful then getting one done.
2. I guess there’s not much for you to do except keeping it clean and making sure your clothing can’t irritate it.
3. Don’t use any soap cleaning it. Trust me, just don’t. Try seasalting it. Just put some of it in a small cup, then fill the cup with water that’s not too cold or too hot. Place this quickly but carefully on your hip. Press it good against your skin. Then leave it on for about 2-3 minutes, and clean with water after.
4.There isn’t anything you can do against rejection. You do not have any control over that. Just remember to keep it cleaned
5.Know what you’re getting in to. It’s painful, so make sure you bring a person along who can soothe you.
6.Well, i live in the netherlands ( europe)..
And mine cost 55 euro’s. In dollars it would be 65-70 dollars.
I got mine done 3 weeks ago, and it has been nothing, but a huge pain in the ass! the top and bottom are fine, but the middle swelled instantly and a few hours later it sucked in and they had to dig for it move it over and pull it out. then i think they hit a vein and a nerve. It Bruised in two stages and looked nasty, and now I can feel the anker surfacing. I love them, but its been a painful, horrible process that I dont think is worth it.
Hey!(:
1)It freaking hurts, but after you get it done, you won’t really care because it’s adorable.
2)Don’t worry about rejection. You’ll love them. Just keep them clean and don’t mess with them.
3)I use dail soap twice a day and sea salt twice a week. Sea salt drys it out so don’t over use it.
4)Yes, they can reject. It might be a temporary piercing, but if you take really good care of it, then it won’t go anywhere any time soon.
5)I squeezed the crap out of my step moms hand, which made me feel a little better, just make sure you take deep breaths and relax, and don’t jump or laugh! …like I did.
6)I paid 90 for mine- 45 each, it included the starter jewelry and sea salt plus an instruction manual. (:
Tips: If you play sports, try to sit out for atleast a week if not longer, don’t move around a lot and if you think they are cute, get it done, worry about all the other stuff later(:
Well, I can see a lot of people have answered the questions fairly well. From what I can tell. Yes, pain is different for everyone. Most surface bars/piercings reject. I haven’t had a surface bar, but I’ve been putting thought into getting my hips done too. I talked with my piercer (who has been piercing for almost 20 years) and he said if you want something long lasting, get dermal anchors. They have basically the same visual effect that surface bars do, and they usually last a lot longer and scar less. They’re not usually extremely pricey either. (I got mine 50 for the first one, half off for the second, etc) If you really want to get a surface piercing, then by all means go for it. But if you’re second guessing it, you probably shouldn’t do it. Go look up some information on microdermals as well, and see how you like the look.
I am thinking to get a hip piercing, and i already got my belly button pierced and it kinda hurt.and can anyone tell me if these hip piercing hurt badly pls…thank you
