Cartlidge Ear Piercing Question.?

6 Comments 18 February 2010

I got my right ear pierced on the cartlidge twice about 5 weeks ago. I got one on my left about 3 weeks ago on the cartlidge as well.
My question is, is it normal for skin to start peeling around a piercing? The backs and a little of the front of my ear is peeling. I have sensitive skin, but I don’t know if that is related.
My mother thinks that the piercing cleaning solution is drying my skin. Its peeling around the piercing as well as lower.
So…normal? Or is something wrong?
Also, one of the piercings is titanium. The other is stainless surgical steel I think. I am allergic to some metals…but I wouldn’t think this would be any of the problems…

your mom is right hun, you are probably having just a mild reaction to the cleaning solution. its not life threatening or anything, so dont worry. if its that irritating, you can stop cleaning it, it should be healed by now. or you can switch to a different one if you still want o make sure it doesnt get infected

when i got my cartilage pierced, it peeled around it. it think it is normal. if it is infected the skin around it would be black. try getting different materialed peicings like rubber or plastic. thats what i did and after i took the metal one out, my ear felt better.

I think the cleaning solution has alchol, which will/can dry up your skin. You might wanna rubber some baby lotion around your ear and stop using the cleaning solution for 2 days and see if it is still peeling. Check with a doctor.

Try soaking it in warm saline and putting vasaline on it before you sleep.

As long as it is not red or itchy you should be fine.

    yeah, it’s normal.
your moms right, it’s just dry skin.
    nothing to worry about.
