Piercing Questions

A Nose Piercing Question…?

3 Comments 25 February 2010

Hey! So I got my nose piercing done on my right side last July, and I think it’s about time that I finally change it. So I got it done with a gun, and I know..I shouldn’t have. But I didn’t know at the time. Anyways, I bought 4 nose studs yesterday; one is 14kt gold, and the other 3 are surgical steel. I know the one that’s gold is probably the safest, but it also doesn’t have any sort of “back”. And it’s not L-shaped or hooked, and it was the only gold one they had. However, the surgical steel ones have balls at the end so I guess that rids the chance of it falling out.
So my question is that: Should I go ahead wear the 14 kt gold one with no back? Or should I wear the surgical steel one with balls at the end? Which one will be safer?
Thanks in advance!

Surgical steel is also a commonly used material for new piercings. It isn’t porous and therefore doesn’t trap bacteria which could lead to infection.
Gold is also considered a pretty good material for piercings, but it should be 18k or higher.
So, in my opinion you should opt for the surgical steel jewelry for now at least, until you can get a high quality gold piece that you’re confident will stay in place.

Well it kind of depends where you got your nose rings and the quality of the nose rings.
If you got it at Wal-Mart I would even bother putting any of them in my nose.
I would think the surgical steel nose rings are the safest.
    I hope that helped.

Its fine to have no back! It will stay in cuz your skin just closes up around it! Mine doesnt have a back and it stays in. Ive tryed both, and they r the same. The ball doesnt really do anything, it just kinda hurts to put it in!
